Completed OIl Painting assignment

"The Lady Vanishes" was supposed to be the book title, but it was never a book in fact. The filmwas based on a book called "The Wheel Turns". The film still was from "Escape from New York' and the apple was the 'found object'. Of course the apple was a Pink Lady variety.

Discovered a new artist

The photography class is leading us to new and interesting artists.
We looked at Boris Zaborov yesterday. Combination of oil painting and photography.
I have added him to my list of references.

Aquatint workshop

On the second day of the aquatint workshop I created this image. The aquatint process created the black parts.

I stopped out the shadows on the eggs, and I burnished (to lighten) the lighter parts.

This took all day!

Photography Assignment

The original image.

I have created some photograms, and am pleased with the work so far

Aquatint print workshop with Marieke Dench

Today I learned how to create an aquatint print. The aim was to create a very black plate so we could burnish and add white.

The process was laborious but worthwhile.

Oil Painting Class

I am pleased with the progress of my oil painting. The exercise was to create a work that incorporated a film still, a found object and a book title.

I chose 'The Lady Vanishes', but then I found out that this is the name of the film but not a book.

The film was based on a book called 'The World Turns'. Still, the significance is not lost.

Work in progress above.

Photography Assignment

For my latest Photography assignment, I am using some photos I found in an old book on World Revolutions.

I am going to incorporate the image with photograms of toy soldiers to fulfill the requirements for the subject.

Myoung Ho Lee - I like his work

Myoung Ho Lee, a young artist from South Korea, has produced an elaborate series of photographs where he hangs a photograph in a real landscape. I saw his work at the Melbounre Art Fair and was fascinated by it.
